Regular Meeting – 7/2/2024

Here is my summary of the Tuesday, July 2nd 2024 regular meeting of Allegheny County Council. My votes are in parentheses, as is the prime sponsor. 14 members were present (Bonaroti absent).

Appointments this meeting included members of Pittsburgh Regional Transit’s (PRT) Board of Directors, the Southwest PA Commission, and the Allegheny County Conservation District. All passed unanimously. I was especially excited about County Executive Innamorato’s nominations to PRT’s board, who have a tremendous personal experience as advocates for the improvement of public transit quality and accessibility.

13109-24 (Yes – County Executive) This ordinance would authorize the issuance of a series of bonds by the county not to exceed $445,000,000. These bonds would cover capital projects like bridge rehabilitation, equipment purchases, road maintenance, and major projects like the improvement to the countywide public safety radio communication system. Passed 14-0.

13110-24 (Yes – County Executive) This ordinance would approve the sale of a parcel of property on Demmler Street in North Versailles. Passed 14-0.

13000-24 (Yes – County Executive) This resolution would dissolve the Mt. Nebo Pointe Tax Increment Financing (TIF) District. The work on this TIF district has long been complete, and this is a piece of housekeeping. Passed 14-0.

13117-24 (Hallam – Public Safety) This ordinance would create a management board for juvenile detention centers (like Shuman) in addition to the already established advisory board. Sent to the Committee on Public Safety.

13118-24 (Yes – Prizio) This ordinance would extend the deadline for the Department of Sustainability to create a climate action plan to July 1, 2025. The previous date was July 1, 2024; however, the department is still working on crafting the policy. Passed 12-2. DeMarco and Macey voted No.
