Here is my summary of the Tuesday, July 9th 2024 regular meeting of Allegheny County Council. My votes are in parentheses, as is the prime sponsor. All 15 members were present.
There were five members up for appointment to the Juvenile Detention Board of Advisors. All of the appointees were very qualified candidates; however, many councilmembers had concerns with a lack of collaboration surrounding their appointment, as well as around the Shuman Center in general. As a result, these appointments were all voted down 14-1, with Walton in the dissent. This rejection will give more time and opportunity for collaboration on these appointments over the coming weeks.
13126-24 (Filiaggi – Assessment Practices) This ordinance would set the requirement to calculate the common level ratio utilizing the standards of the State Tax Equalization Board Sales Validation and Submission Operations Manual and the most recent International Association of Assessing Officers Standard on Verification and Adjustment of Sales. Sent to Committee on Assessment Practices.
13127-24 (Yes – Catena) This motion expresses the support of Council for the National Flag Foundation’s Light to Unite national day of unity on July 4, 2026. Passed unanimously.
Council will be on a short summer recess from meetings, returning August 20th.
